morethanAV are happy to offer impartial advice for potential purchasers of high value pre-owned Bang & Olufsen / B&O goods - there are no longer any independent B&O forums to seek advice, all are run commercially and claims to be free of bias, where comments are not filtered and of 'being independent' are thoroughly and purposefully misleading.

Buying and Selling Advice for Pre-Owned or used Bang & Olufsen (B&O)

Our best advice is always to seek two or three quotations from reputable resellers when seeking to buy or sell Bang & Olufsen equipment.  Many Resellers use the term 'leading reseller' and this is often a misrepresentation.  Seek information as to the premises from which a Reseller operates (if any)  whether they are VAT registered (turnover exceeds £60k+ per annum of pre-owned goods) and how long they have been established.  Seek verifiable information that a product has been serviced if that is claimed, essential for long-term ownership and enjoyment.

Do not feel uncomfortable seeking both trade and customer references. morethanAV have been established over five years at the time of press, our turnover is substantial, out stock-holding is over £200k of pre-owned Bang & Olufsen goods and we are happy to provide trade and customer references within the UK, Europe and as far as Australia, Hong Kong and so forth.  We own nearly 6500 sq.ft. of commercial premises across two properties and will shortly open the largest showroom for pre-owned Bang & Olufsen / B&O goods in the World.

Our best advice when buying or selling pre-owned Bang & Olufsen is to beware of any Reseller attempting to mislead or improperly influence your decision who make representations about any other Company other than their own!  Concentrate on the quotes you are given if selling pre-owned Bang & Olufsen goods and compare them!  Similarly when buying goods, when comparing prices check the ages, service history (if any), length of warranty offered and whether goods will be unboxed and set up for you (if possible) upon delivery and without further charge.

By way of example, an unnamed Company recently approached three or four Resellers and Reseller A engaged in misleading and inaccurate claims about another competitor (Reseller B) in a purposeful attempt to gain a position of advantage.  However when the quotes were compared, which were for quite a substantial sum of money, the Company found that the highest quote they had received was from Reseller B; Reseller A, who had attempted to mislead, had offered less than 50% of the final agreed price between the Company and Reseller B!  However self-important and demeaning to others a person may be, try to ignore their claims because there is always an agenda!  And yes morethanAV were Reseller B!  We offer reasonable prices for goods and wish others did the same!  Always be wary of Companies who say you can 'trust' the products they sell and who offer inferior warranty terms.  As a professional business, trading is not about trusting anyone or anything, it is about clear and fair terms and support during the ownership of your products.

Buying pre-owned Bang & Olufsen

Always seek a minimum warranty of 12 months with almost any product, save for vintage or older products which will be covered by a warranty of between 3 to 6 months.  Used B&O products are highly reliable, but it would be foolish to 'trust' any pre-owned product, similarly I personally would not 'trust' any new product; warranty is key to your purchasing decision.  Ask for serial numbers (which indicate year of manufacture) rather than rely on expressions of 2007...... 2008 and so on.  The year quoted may often refer to the year of purchase, and it may well be that you are being sold older ex-demonstration good or goods purposely misrepresented as manufactured later in order to inflate the price!  Our advice is to seek the comfort of a 14 Day Satisfaction Warranty - do not rely solely on photos or images that are presented as representative of an item you are interested in, however convincing.  Be wary of any reseller who only has less than twenty items for sale but claims to be a Professional Reseller.  The photos in front of a nice fireplace may look convincing however!

Selling pre-owned Bang & Olufsen

The prices you may be offered between Reseller Companies will differ due to variants such as individual stock-holdings - however no Reseller can fairly or accurately value goods without the first three digits of the serial number being given and so forth.  Our best advice is to seek two or three quotations well in advance of the date you intend to sell and to simply compare the speed and manner of response as well as the quoted figure.  Discuss the payment terms at that time.  Resellers run businesses which run on a profit margin, the prices you are quoted should allow for that and any work, the costs of collection and any work that needs to be performed in order for the Reseller to be able to sell on the goods in very good condition and with the comfort of a warranty.

Our new showroom will demonstrate expertise in Bang & Olufsen installation and product integration, in addition to a new mood lighting area of the business that is at its genesis.

The Christmas rush shows no sign of slowing down with a gentle trickle of gorgeous equipment flowing lazily through our business. This is quite an old set, dating from September 2010, sold due to country reolocation! (***Updated October 9th 2010***) An intriguing week in the course of business for morethanAV! A car thief who was ransacking the front of our smaller delivery vehicle BE0 2 BUY on Monday night was apprehended and a Citizens Arrest enforced; pleading Guilty our light-fingered friend is now facing deportation. After getting the Passenger side-window replaced the next Morning, for the second time in nearly five years, and on consecutive nights (Tuesday) the same van was in a locked and not-so-secure underground car park in Reading and again the Passenger side-window was broken in a futile attempt to steal items that were just not there for the thieves to steal!

Having sold a few of the latest Beosound 5/Beomaster 5 units from Bang & Olufsen, today presented a slightly different challenge in that the router - a necessary device to get the units working and linked to the Web for Internet Radio/Data use - was positioned far away from where the Beosound 5 was to be installed. Thanks to some very helpful people and ignoring some of their advice(!), we managed to get the Beomaster 5 operating wirelessly rather than running Ethernet-over-Mains (not possible with this job) or by running a torturous and expensive cable route. Furthermore, with a 13 year old - but as new - Beosound 9000 with the correct software levels everything.

If you are considering a Beomaster 5 or Beosound 5/Beomaster 5 combination don't let the thought of having to run Ethernet to your router put you off, installation is (but wasn't at the time) fairly straightforward with the right advice!

Over the course of this Summer there will be some major changes at how we operate the business at morethanAV. We are having photographic backdrops printed and installed at our premises in Crawley, and secondly a new web-based stock control system is being programmed overseas in Europe. This will enable faster stock updating and enable us to list hundreds of products we have ready for sale.

For the past four years we have traded successfully on the basis of advertising serial numbers for our goods (the only reseller to do so to enable B&O to monitor our stock and check that our goods are not stolen) and offering customers the security of a fourteen day Satisfaction Guarantee. We have kept costs down by moving stock quickly without the added expense of photographs whilst setting the standard for pre-owned post-sale warranty for B&O equipment.

Now we are in a position to further enhance the website, recently revamped, with photographs whilst still offering the most competitive pricing and the best customer service. Please note that our service will be slightly delayed on Wednesday 4th August 2010 whilst we are flown to St Tropez for a site inspection prior to a full installation the following week, normal service will be resumed the following day.

If there are any recommendations you may have we would love to hear them - already suggestions have been coming in, the most popular being to properly and accurately represent to potential customers the purchase price when goods were orginally bought, figures one of our competitors purposely continue to misrepresent whilst urging people to trust them and the products they sell.
